Due to the public health risk posed by COVID-19, Cumberland City Council will be closing the Auburn Botanic Gardens from Friday 7 August 2020 until Thursday 10 September 2020.

The decision follows the cancellation of the annual Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Garden in Auburn Botanic Gardens. With the number of park visitors increasing in recent days, Council will now close the surrounding Gardens.

“The Auburn Botanic Gardens attracted a few hundred visitors over the weekend,” said Hamish McNulty, Cumberland City Council General Manager.

“While visitors were spread out across a large area, our main concern is these numbers will continue to increase, particularly at a time of the year where thousands of people are used to gathering for the Cherry Blossom Festival.

“Health and safety is our priority and we appreciate the community’s understanding and patience as we navigate this pandemic as a community. We will continue to monitor the situation and will assess the Garden’s extended closure subject to health advice.”
