Cumberland City Council’s response to COVID-19 is changing rapidly to mirror Government restrictions but Council is still working to keep the community connected and look after our most vulnerable residents.

“Government regulations may mean less face-to-face interaction with people, but it is crucial that we don’t stop looking after each other,” said Mayor Steve Christou.

“Council’s Seniors and Disability Team is providing a range of services for seniors who are the most vulnerable in this pandemic. This includes welfare checks, Meals on Wheels and shopping assistance.

“These are just simple steps we can take that will make a huge difference in, what may prove to be, some difficult weeks and months ahead.

“I encourage residents to check on your neighbours and elderly family members even by telephone.

“Provided everyone is well and you’re observing social distancing rules, picking up some shopping, prescriptions or running errands could be a major help. This will ensure less risk taking from our seniors who could be compromising their health.

“This is the time to come together as a community and support each other to come out the other side of this uncertain and challenging situation.

“For as long as this is the new normal, we will work together and get through it.”
