Staff at Cumberland City Council will get an extra 10 days special leave if they are required to self-quarantine for coronavirus.

“We have a number of staff who are overseas or have recently returned from travel and will be required to follow the Federal Government’s self-quarantine rules to limit the spread of coronavirus,” said Mayor Steve Christou.

“It’s absolutely vital that we ensure the health and well-being of our staff and the wider community during this outbreak.

“If our staff are affected, we want them to self-quarantine and not take any unnecessary risks by coming into work and interacting with their colleagues or our customers.

“We understand that not all staff will have access to sufficient leave to cover this period of self-quarantine so effective immediately, anyone who is required to self-quarantine will be granted up to 10 days (2 work weeks) special leave to cover their wages.

“Additionally, all casual staff required to self-quarantine will be paid ordinary wages for any shifts they would have been rostered on for up to 10 days to cover the isolation period.

“If a staff member is sick or is caring for someone who may have caught the virus they can access their sick leave entitlements. If they have exhausted all accrued leave entitlements and they are unwell, Council will consider granting special leave.”

All Council programmed events and services, which involve contact with the public, are currently under review and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
