This event aims to highlight the important contribution of female sporting club volunteers, administrators, technical officials, coaches, managers and athletes to local sports.

Guest speaker at the event will be Australian Paralympian wheelchair racer Eliza Ault-Connell. Eliza made her international debut in 2002 at the Manchester Commonwealth Games, placing third in the wheelchair 800m.

In 2002 she competed in the World Para-Championships winning a silver in the T54 400m. Her sporting career continued at the 2004 Paralympics Games, 2006 World Para-Championships and what she considered her career highlight, a silver in the 800m at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Cumberland Mayor Greg Cummings said the event was an opportunity for Council and the community to show appreciation for the contributions women make to sport.

“Women like Eliza Ault-Connell are a shining example to other young women and girls of what can be achieved if you believe in yourself and work hard,” Clr Cummings said.

“Women make an equal contribution to sport in the community and across Australia, and the rise of women’s competitions in the NRL and AFLW show that women are now recognised for this.

“I encourage anyone involved in sport to register your interest in the event so you can hear the amazing story of Eliza’s rise to prominence over adversity.”

The event will be held on Tuesday 7 May from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at The Holroyd Centre.

Entry is free and registrations essential before 4.30pm on Friday 3 May.
