Cumberland City Council has identified a space for a Service NSW Centre if it proceeds with its relocation to Granville.

The proposal to relocate to Granville, which is currently subject to a feasibility study, would streamline Council’s operations and bring around 600 staff into the one location on Memorial Drive.

In a meeting last night, Council provided in-principle support to provide a space for a Service NSW Centre, within Council’s new administration building.

"Ratepayers regularly tell me that a Service NSW Centre would make it so much easier for them to go about their business and make transactions with the State Government," said Mayor Steve Christou.

“At the moment, residents in Merrylands and Granville are required to travel to Parramatta or Auburn.

“We want to help the NSW Government provide another Service NSW Centre for residents and limit any unnecessary red tape that may delay this commitment becoming a reality. As a result, Council is offering to provide a space for a Service NSW Centre in the new administration building for Granville if Council opts to centralise its operations.

“The Centre would be conveniently located on a street next to the train station and there would be parking available.”

In February last year, Service NSW issued a press release stating that its footprint will expand across Sydney with 10 new Service Centres and Merrylands was included as one of the 10 locations. The new Centre in Merrylands is yet to eventuate.

Council will write to the Premier of NSW and Minister for Customer Service requesting their support for the proposal.

The space would be subject to a lease agreement once the building is finalised.
