Creative, inspiring and innovative videos were part of the winning bag of videos from Cumberland Council’s Healthy Kids initiative.
Four schools in the Cumberland LGA were awarded $5000 for their video pitches which ranged from improving school kitchens to building larger garden patches for healthier food and living.
The winning schools were the following in no particular order:
- Auburn Girls High School
- Granville Public School
- Guildford West Public School
- Cerdon College
After some exceptional submissions, the winning videos were selected by a panel which focused on the pitches and implementation of their ideas.
“We will be using these funds to help our breakfast club program at school” one of the winners Auburn Girls High School said in a Facebook post.
The student-run breakfast club offers a variety of lean cuisines for students in the mornings before class.
Mayor Greg Cummings attended each of the schools to hand over the $5000 cheque and congratulate the winners.
“We were impressed by the calibre of the submissions and narrowed it down to the top four” Mayor Cummings said.
“We are glad to be supporters of teachers and students who opt for a healthier lifestyle. Kids spend a lot of their time at school so it’s important that we provide an environment where they can learn and adopt healthy behaviours that can be used at home too”.
“Cumberland is a great place to be for active and healthy kids. We’re fortunate enough to have more than 800ha of open green and recreational space available as well as our wonderful community and swim centres, many of which we are the process of upgrading.”
