Cumberland City Council is encouraging residents to have their say on land use planning for the Woodville Road Corridor.

Council is proposing a planning framework that will provide a new approach to guide future development.

“This Corridor and future planning for this space is considered to be important to securing future housing in Cumberland City with good access to local and regional jobs, as well as meeting the needs of the community,” said Mayor Steve Christou.

“Following the release of Cumberland 2030: Our Local Strategic Planning Statement and finalisation of new planning controls for Cumberland City, the proposed planning framework is the next step in outlining the vision for the Woodville Road Corridor.”

The planning framework proposes future development at three precincts along the Corridor that can take advantage of existing and planned infrastructure and facilities. These precincts are:

  • Merrylands East Precinct, which would see include targeted changes to built form with access to planned retail uses and a new local park;
  • Woodville South Precinct, which would see targeted changes to built form with access to Guildford town centre and station; and
  • Woodville North Precinct, which would see targeted changes to built form with access to Granville Park and public transport.

Council is inviting submissions on the proposed planning framework until 18 December 2020.

Following early consultation, submissions will be considered by Council to inform a draft Local Environmental Plan amendment (planning proposal) and draft Development Control Plan for the Woodville Road Corridor.

Recommendations on the planning framework and draft planning controls for the Woodville Road Corridor are expected to be considered by Council in mid-2021.
