Mayor Steve Christou on behalf of Cumberland City Council has condemned the attack on Kabul University in Afghanistan, killing 22 students.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and we extend our condolences to the Afghan people facing this tragedy,” Mayor Steve Christou said.

“We strongly condemn against acts of violence and stand for the right to receive an education without fear and terror.

“To target students is not only cowardly, but a heinous crime, which we stand firmly against.

“We have a large Afghan diaspora in Cumberland City and stand in solidarity with the community.

“In times of adversity, our values for the right to peace, education and security are only strengthened.
