Cumberland City Council has launched a 'Shop Local this Holiday Season’ campaign, including an online competition where you can win up to three vouchers for Stockland Mall, to attract shoppers to buy from Cumberland City businesses over the Black Friday, Christmas and New Year holidays.

“If you are a local business in Cumberland City, we want residents and shoppers to support you.

We've created a dedicated page on our website so residents can see what products and services are on offer for the Christmas and holiday period,” said Mayor Steve Christou.

“This year has had a huge toll on our local economy. That’s why we’ve introduced these supportive measures to help boost sales and strategies,”.

Cumberland City Council is also running a competition on social media where residents can win a hundred-dollar Stockland Mall voucher when they shop from one of the businesses listed on the website.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the impact of COVID-19 has resulted in more than 1300 job losses in the food sector and over 1100 job losses in the manufacturing sector.

The gross regional product for Cumberland City in the September quarter this year was 5.3% lower than the same quarter last year. This fall is greater than that experienced by the state as a whole.

“The support for businesses is not over, and we remain in this together. Whether it’s your next family dinner, Christmas shopping, or spoiling pets, we want people to shop locally this holiday season and take advantage of the wide array of offerings across a range of retailers and industries in Cumberland City,” Mayor Steve Christou said.

This is a free initiative and open to all businesses trading in Cumberland City.
