Residents and visitors are invited to dine under the stars, when a one night only food festival rolls into Auburn, bringing a huge line up of food trucks and street food stalls, alongside famous Auburn eateries for an authentic Ramadan dining experience.

Cumberland Mayor Greg Cummings said ‘The many flavours of Ramadan’ will celebrate the exuberant cultural diversity of the local area through food, friendship and unity on Saturday 18 May as part of Local Cumberland Festival (18 April – 26 May).

“Auburn is one of the most well-known places for Sydneysiders to experience eclectic and exciting food that defies convention and provides for an animated and memorable dining adventure,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“For many years Auburn has enjoyed a thriving Ramadan night-food culture in the town centre. Now the local community wants to share that vibrant and inclusive experience with the rest of Sydney, and we’ve invited some of Sydney’s most established and popular middle-Eastern food, Asian and African trucks and restaurants to participate.

“Cumberland is one of the most diverse areas in all of Sydney. We have people from more than 150 countries, speaking different languages and practicing different religions, living respectfully and harmoniously together in Cumberland.

“As a Council we are determined for Cumberland to be place where everyone feels welcome and can belong. We want to publically recognise and celebrate those occasions that are close to the heart of the Cumberland community and that resonate with all Australians. Our event calendar commemorates major community, civic and cultural events like ANZAC Day, Australia Day, National Reconciliation Week, Easter, Lunar New Year, Diwali and Christmas.

“During Ramadan, fasting takes place from sunrise to sunset. Iftar is the meal shared after the breaking of the fast and is shared with family and community. You’re invited to join with your neighbours and share a meal at one of the long banquet tables in a spirit of togetherness, unity and peace.”

The festival takes place on Saturday 18 May, from 6pm to midnight along Auburn Road, between Mary Street and Beatrice Street. All are welcome. This is a family friendly event.
