Experience a night of vibrant celebrations with traditional music, cultural performances, and dancers at Cumberland City Council’s Nowruz event on Saturday 22 March from 7pm to 10pm.
Everyone is invited to celebrate the festivities as Merrylands comes alive for Nowruz. This free event is an opportunity to learn about the rich history of Nowruz, celebrated for over 3,000 years in many countries, including Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia.
The evening will include main stage performances from the Hathor Iranian Dance Ensemble, music by DJ Allen and live performances from Nayestan Music Band and Ability Beyond Boundaries, as well as a range of community, food, and market stalls to explore.
Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed warmly invites the community to come along and celebrate the vibrant spirit of Nowruz and embrace and honour Cumberland’s rich cultural diversity.
"Nowruz is a wonderful celebration of renewal, marking the beginning of a new season. Council’s event aims to foster unity, offering a chance for our community to come together and explore the diverse traditions that enrich Cumberland," said Mayor Hamed.
"These event gatherings help strengthen our connections, deepen our understanding, and celebrate the shared humanity that brings us all together."

A road closure will be in place on Merrylands Road between Addlestone Road and Memorial Avenue from 7am on Saturday, 22 March 2025, and will reopen at 2am on Sunday, 23 March 2025.
