You’re never too old to learn something new and now is the perfect time to start as Cumberland libraries celebrate Adult Learners Week from 1 – 8 September with a range of free workshops and activities for residents.

Mayor Greg Cummings said education and learning is not something that stops when you finish school but is a lifelong journey.

“In our rapidly changing society with new technologies, services and diverse communities it is important for all adults to continue learning in both formal and informal settings, and our Cumberland libraries are a great place to start,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“Learning is more than sitting down in a class room. It can be meeting with people from different backgrounds to learn languages, listening to audiobooks, watching a historical movie, attending a hands on workshop to learn a new skill, or simply borrowing a book from the library.

“Council is committed to providing opportunities for Cumberland residents of all ages to learn new skills and develop passions for different hobbies. Apart from our libraries, our Lifelong Learning Program offers a variety of fun and affordable activities including art workshops, language classes, Zumba and Pilates, knitting, community choirs, social outings, cooking classes, food and culture tours, and computer lessons.

“Studies show that as we get older one of the best ways to maintain a healthy life is by engaging with our community and continuing to be active both in the mind and body. I encourage all residents to get involved and make a personal commitment to learn something new during Adult Learners Week.”
