Cumberland City Council has teamed up with the Western Sydney Academy of Sport to offer local athletes the opportunity to access high quality coaching, and educational and personal development across a range of sports disciplines offered by the Academy.

The Western Sydney Academy of Sport is one of 11 Regional Academies of Sport and is an independent, not-for-profit, community based organisation.

In collaboration with the recognised State Sporting Organisation (SSO) for each, our goal is to provide new development programs for talented young athletes residing in the western Sydney region, including the Cumberland City Local Government Area.

Our programs bring together technical and skill development resources, educational providers and personal development activities to deliver a holistic program at some of the region’s best venues.

The partnership between Cumberland City Council and the Academy will present young athletes from the Cumberland City LGA with the opportunity to nominate for the Academy programs including: Cycling, Digital Realty Netball and Netball Umpiring, Golf, Heartland Motors Lone Star, Rowing, Softball and Triathlon.

Academy CEO Martin Bullock commented on the partnership saying “It’s wonderful to have Cumberland City Council’s support so that we can offer these development opportunities to local young athletes.”

Cumberland City Council Mayor Steve Christou said he was proud to be supporting initiatives like this for Cumberland City’s youth.

“There is so much emerging talent in our LGA and we owe it to these local athletes to give them the best possible start and resources to succeed.

“Sport is a great way to challenge yourself, be part of a positive social network and create stronger communities. I’m proud that we can offer these great opportunities to Cumberland City.”
