Volunteer Coordinator for AusRelief, Mona Afchal

Volunteer Coordinator for AusRelief, Mona Afchal worked closely with Council to support and provide Emergency Care Packages to vulnerable communities in the wake of COVID-19. With a fun and friendly personality, Mona works with close to 60 volunteers to help make a difference to communities.

“We have been putting together care packs for refugees, the elderly, homeless peoples’, you name it,” Mona says.

Alongside with coordinating, she also runs a Drug and Alcohol program with AusRelief and recruits skilled volunteers to assist across a range of areas.

“Our volunteers vary from teachers, parents, students and families. We are like one big family here with many volunteers often bringing along a family member. Many have full-time jobs or studies outside of volunteering but make giving back a priority. With reduced business hours for many, we’ve even had some business owners use this spare time to volunteer, even though they are going through their own struggles. It’s gratifying to see.”
