The winners of the 2018 Cumberland Art and Photography Awards were announced on Saturday 12 May at the Peacock Gallery in Auburn. The judging panel declared it one of the most competitive years yet with entrants submitting art and photographic works of the Cumberland Local Government Area in nine different categories.
Lux Eterna took home $2,500 for winning the Cumberland Art Award with her piece ‘Birch Tree Study.’ Rebecca Elijah won the Cumberland Photography Award with her photograph entitled ‘Gathering Momentum’ and was awarded $2,000.

Mayor Greg Cummings congratulated the winners while noting, “Photography and the arts are powerful tools for our diverse community to share their stories.”
“I would like to congratulate all the artists and photographers who have entered the Awards and thank them for sharing their creativity with the community.”
All artwork and photography submitted will now form part of an exhibition held at the Peacock Gallery up until 17 June 2018. Most art pieces are up for sale and visitors can vote on the People’s choice Art and Photography award, respectively.
