The artistic community of Cumberland, from professional painters to weekend poets and everything in between, are invited to have their say on how Council can support local artists.

An online survey is open until Friday 2 November 2018, with the results to inform how Council will plan and deliver its arts and cultural services, programs and infrastructure.

Mayor Greg Cummings invited artists to complete the survey, acknowledging the important role artists played in the life of the community.

“Cumberland is one of the most culturally diverse local government areas in Australia,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“The arts provide a tangible way for people to express their culture, articulate their ideas and celebrate where they live.

“We want to support our artists and ensure our town centres, neighbourhoods and community centres are hubs of artistic creativity.

“A thriving arts scene is good for the community and great for local businesses. It draws people together and creates a sense of excitement about belonging to the community.

“However for this to happen, we need to hear from artists. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes and all comments are completely anonymous.

“The survey will help us establish what artistic endeavours are currently being performed; what artists need to succeed; and what role Council should play.

“We are also using this survey to get a broad view as to what the economic circumstances, employment levels and educational background of Cumberland’s artists are.

“There’s never been a better time to be an artist in Cumberland, with a growing arts scene, funding opportunities and new performances spaces under construction, like the Granville Multipurpose Centre.”
