Mayor Steve Christou has expressed disappointment over the NSW Government’s refusal to expand parking near Pendle Hill Train Station.

Council have been in discussion with Transport for NSW since 2015 to increase parking spots for commuters at Civic Park carpark and to build a new commuter carpark on Council owned-land in Civil Avenue and Billabong Street in Pendle Hill.

As part of the recent State Election, the State Government committed to building a new commuter carpark at Pendle Hill comprising of an additional 130 car parking spaces.

“We’ve been working with Transport authorities to increase commuter carparking at Pendle Hill Train Station but were concerned that the design of the carpark not impact too much on the local area. We just want to move forward and make this happen,” Mayor Christou said.

“After three and half years of consultation, however, Council has been informed that Transport for NSW is now walking away from this project.

“I wrote to Transport for NSW last month to offer my assistance as Mayor, and the response I’ve received basically puts this issue in the ‘too-hard basket’ and blames Council for a lack of co-operation.

“Transport authorities have instead determined that they want to allocate parking to Wentworthville train station. I look forward to seeing the details around where and when that will happen.

“I would urge Transport authorities to reconsider their decision around parking in Pendle Hill. Commuters need this parking, it was an election commitment and Council is ready to move forward with this.”
