Cumberland City Council has partnered with Supertee for a day of packaging medical garments in the form of superhero outfits for kids in hospital.

“At Council’s Christmas party last year, we purchased one-hundred Supertees to be donated to children in local hospitals and will be packaging and delivering them, with the help of Council staff, using the space in our newly built Granville Centre” Mayor of Cumberland City Council Steve Christou said.

Supertee was created by local Greystanes resident Jason Sotirsis, a self-employed tradie and father of three, after his daughter Angela was diagnosed with a rare illness at age 1.

“Scans found tumours throughout her tiny body. She was given only a 20% chance of beating a rare disease known as histiocytosis that affects one in 100,000 children,” Jason revealed.

Jason and his wife became regular hospital goers, experiencing every parent’s nightmare.

“After one of Angela’s chemo sessions, I attempted to change my daughter out of her clothes which proved difficult and seemed to upset her. It was then the Supertee idea was born as a practical and fun alternative to children’s traditional hospital gowns”.

Supertee is an innovative system that provides parents and hospital staff an easier way to change, access and bypass medical lines.

“As a parent myself, the glimpse of light the Supertee team brings to families and children experiencing what is one of the hardest realities to deal with is truly commendable,” Mayor of Cumberland City Council Steve Christou said.

Local resident Ruth Ramirez-Dib and her two year-old daughter Coco, who suffers from Trisomy 21, have been touched by the work of Supertee.

“Coco is my Wonder Woman. She wears her Supertee outfit which is easy to take off and put back on, particularly when she is being seen at the hospital,” Ruth said.
