A new multi-use community sports pavilion at Granville Park, Merrylands, is a step closer to becoming a reality after the NSW Government announced that Cumberland Council had been successful in securing a $2.74 million grant for the facility.

Liberal candidate for Granville Tony Issa said the multi-sport facility would host state events for the community year-round.

“The upgrade will include grandstand seating for 1500, change rooms, kiosk, referee and medical rooms, a gym, office and social function space,” Mr Issa said.

“In addition, the field will be resurfaced with upgrades to lighting, fencing and irrigation.”

“I congratulate Cumberland Council on their successful application which will ensure Granville residents can enjoy the benefits of regular activity and exercise at a world-class sports facility.”

The Hon. Scott Farlow MLC said the Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund provides grants between $500,000 and $5 million for sport facility projects.

“The Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund invests in new and existing facilities to improve the quality and quantity of sports infrastructure across Greater Sydney,” Mr Farlow said.

“Over the next three years, the NSW Government will invest $100 million towards new and upgraded sports facilities. This will substantially improve the quality and accessibility of community sports facilities around Sydney.”

“This is a win for both Granville and Greater Western Sydney,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“The project responds to strong community feedback, projected population increases and a need to plan early for future infrastructure requirements.”

General Manager of the Western Sydney Two Blues Rugby Union Club, Craig Morgan said the club was excited about the announcement.

“The funding and redevelopment of Granville Park goes a long way to breaking the stereotypes for Western Sydney and will be a major asset for the future of the Two Blues and the wider community,” Mr Morgan said.
