Cumberland Council will celebrate Christmas, with a Shrek-themed event in Auburn Botanic Gardens on Saturday, 7 December (between 6pm-10pm).

Mayor for Cumberland, Steve Christou said he was looking forward to the event.

“Christmas is a magical time for families and young people in particular and a time to focus on coming together as a local community,” Mayor Christou said.

“Cumberland Council and Auburn Botanic Gardens is getting into the Christmas cheer by presenting a fairy tale event, Shrek Style.

“It’s free so I invite local residents to come along and take part in this very special evening.”

There will be Christmas carols by local community groups as well as rides and activities. Residents can meet characters like Shrek, Puss in Boots and Princess Fiona or enjoy an outdoor screening of Shrek the Halls and Shrek Forever After.

Council hopes to attract up to 10,000 people, similar to last year’s attendance figures.

A free shuttle bus will run between Auburn Train Station and Auburn Botanic Gardens during the event and can accommodate accessible and pram requirements.

Auburn Botanic Gardens has public parking available on Chiswick Road. Limited
accessible parking is available.

In addition to Christmas in the Gardens, there will be 11 outdoor Christmas trees and themed decorations put up across all wards in Cumberland during November and December.

“We hope that Christmas trees will help residents and businesses get into the Christmas spirit and promote shopping in these areas of our local community.”
