Cumberland City Council has drafted new planning controls – a Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and a Development Control Plan (DCP) – with community feedback set to begin on Wednesday 1 April 2020.

The draft LEP proposes a single planning framework for all of Cumberland City, and the draft DCP provides the detailed controls for planning and development within the City.

“Cumberland City Council is currently operating under three separate LEPs and DCPs following the 2016 amalgamation, and each has its own different objectives and controls for planning and development,” said Mayor Steve Christou.

“This means there are different approaches to planning across the City, which provides inconsistent outcomes and is not practical in the long term.

“Council has prepared the draft LEP and draft DCP to consolidate the existing plans, with the aim of creating single frameworks and guidelines to support planning in Cumberland.

“This process will deliver much-needed reform to streamline what future development looks like in Cumberland.”

Written submissions can be made by 8 May 2020 and will be considered in the finalisation of the new planning controls for Cumberland City.

Written submissions can be made via Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ page haveyoursay.cumberland.nsw.gov.au; email council@cumberland.nsw.gov.au or by post to the General Manager, Cumberland Council, PO Box 42, Merrylands NSW 2160
