The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) has developed a Planning Portal that enables online submission of development applications (DAs) and other planning related applications to Council.

From 31 December 2020, anyone lodging a planning application will be required to upload their application electronically through the NSW Planning Portal that is managed by the NSW Government.

“As a result of these changes, planning applications can no longer be submitted to Council over the front counter in person, by post or by email,” said Acting General Manager, Daniel Cavallo.

“To lodge a development application, you will need to be connected to the internet as the NSW Planning Portal is a web-based tool and you will also need to register and verify an account.

“If required, computers and internet access is available at our customer service desks in Merrylands and Auburn for the purpose of lodging your planning application.

“We are here to help with making the transition easier, with our duty planners available by appointment if you require any assistance in lodging your application and using the Portal.”

The applications that will need to be submitted through the portal include:

  • development applications (including modification applications and review applications)
  • complying development applications,
  • construction, subdivision and occupation certificates, including appointment of Council as a Private Certifier.

“The Portal is already open for customers to lodge planning applications online and will be made mandatory from 31 December 2020, in accordance with NSW Government requirements,” said Mr Cavallo.

“Once registered, users can view, manage, track and progress applications online via their user dashboard.

“They will also be able to submit documents and be notified when decisions have been made.”
