Cumberland Council has announced the winners of six return airfares to Osaka, Japan as part of the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival, thanks to major sponsor Scoot.

Monica Mcilwain won two return flights for pre-booking her tickets online and Uzair Motiwala won a family pass for pre-booking tickets to the inaugural kid’s day.

Mayor Greg Cummings congratulated the two winners and wished them a wonderful time in Japan.

“The Auburn Botanic Gardens is one of the jewels of Cumberland. I invite Monica and Uzair to see how our Japanese Garden holds up against the originals in Osaka and beyond,” said Mayor Greg Cummings.

“Both Monica and Uzair made up some of the more than 60,000 visitors from outside the LGA who travelled into Cumberland for the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival this year.

“The flow on effect of this 10 day influx is considerable, bringing in millions of dollars into the local economy for the duration of the Festival.

“Like other major cultural tourism events and festivals, the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival has proven to have a significant impact on the local Cumberland economy.

“This year we welcomed 90,000 visitors to the Auburn Botanic Gardens, ensuring the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival kept its crown as the largest flower festival in NSW.

“The blossoms might have gone but we have a lot more in store for Auburn in 2018. This year sees the return of the much loved Auburn Festival.

“Auburn Festival is a free fun day out for all ages. Join us on the street on Saturday 28 September for lots of food, fun and fair activities free for all!

“Headlining the Dooleys main stage will be the one and only Stan Walker as well as Auburn Festival favourites, the Far Seas Ensemble plus many newcomers such as Tarisai Vushe.”
