The Draft Operational Plan 2018-19 was adopted at the 20 June Council Meeting and will return more than $77 million back to the community through an improved and ambitious capital works program.

Major projects in the next financial year include:

 Granville Multi-purpose Centre, $9 million

  • Merrylands CBD Major Drainage Upgrade, $8.5 million
  • Guilford Swim Centre Upgrade, $8.5 million
  • Wentworthville Pool Swim Centre Modernisation, $5.8 million
  • Central Gardens All Abilities and Mixed Age Playground, $800,000
  • Auburn Botanic Gardens Entertainment Precinct, $522,674

Mayor Greg Cummings welcomed the adoption of the new Operational Plan saying Councillors had listened carefully to community feedback.

“The Operational Plan 2018-19 delivers what the community wants,” Mayor Cummings said.

“Residents told us they want cleaner streets and public spaces they can be proud of. This budget delivers with the recruitment of 12 new permanent street cleansing staff to bolster our street cleaning program and significant investment in waste services.

“Residents told us that some of our pools aren’t up to scratch. This budget allocates $8.5 million to improve Guildford Swim Centre and $5.8 million to modernise the Wentworthville Pool Swim Centre. These works will begin at the end of the peak summer season.

“Residents told us they wanted faster DA processing times. This budget will help us cut waiting times by 10 per cent so mum and dad developers can spend more time getting on with their lives and less time waiting for Council.

“I can assure the community we are listening and are putting our money where their priorities are.”
