Providing practical information, ideas and networking opportunities to help businesses start up and grow, Small Business Month celebrations will be held across Cumberland in October, supported by the NSW Department of Industry.

In Cumberland, there are three free events to choose from, each designed to help small business owners improve their productivity, grow their business and engage with other businesses striving for similar goals.

  • Business Connect Bus: Tuesday 9 October, 9am to 3pm, 36 McFarlane Street, Merrylands.  Experienced business advisors will provide personalised support on how to start and / or grow your business.
  • One-on-one business advisory service: Tuesday 16 October, 9.30am to 4pm, Allan G Ezzy Community Centre, Pemulwuy. Whether you’re starting up or looking to take things to the next level, accredited advisors will be able to provide information and advice.
  • Celebrating business in Cumberland: Thursday 18 October, 6.30-8.30pm, Holroyd Centre, Merrylands. Featuring presentations and panel discussions, this event offers an opportunity to network with peers and access advice from local business support organisations.

“We have around 23, 251 businesses in our region, providing many and varied jobs, and goods and services for our growing community,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“Council is excited to support NSW Small Business Month and provide these great opportunities for local businesses and budding entrepreneurs to come together, and celebrate their contribution to our community.

“I also want to take this opportunity to assure our local business community that Council is committed to supporting local businesses all year long.

“Our new Business Support Program offers free bi-monthly Business Capacity Building Workshops and a free monthly one-on-one business advisory service.

“We’ve also just launched a bi-monthly Business Bulletin to ensure the local business community is informed and engaged.”
