Cumberland Council is inviting all residents to attend a free energy savings and solar workshop on Thursday 1 November to hear from industry experts on ways to reduce electricity and gas costs in the home, and go into the draw to win a home energy assessment.

Mayor Greg Cummings said Council is working towards a cleaner, greener Cumberland and wanted to provide residents with the tools to play their role. “Ensuring that Cumberland is a greener and liveable place is one of Council’s key priority areas for the next four years,” Mayor Cummings said.

“Residents who attend our free workshop will hear from speakers from the Department of Planning and Environment, energy consultants, and Council’s Environmental Management Team about energy saving measures, a range of energy rebates and assistance available, solar panels, and battery storage.

“Attendees will also have a chance to win a free professional home energy assessment to help home owners and renters understand their environmental impact, their energy use and how it can be improved.

“Council provides a wide range of community focused environmental initiatives to help residents live sustainably. We want to enhance the capacity of our community to reduce their environmental footprint.

“Energy prices have risen by 20% this year adding extra stress to family budgets. People are being forced to dig deep just to keep appliances on, which can account for up to 30% of household energy use .

“There are some very easy ways to keep energy bills down including energy efficient appliances, washing clothes with cold water instead of warm wash, and unplugging unused appliances. I encourage everyone to attend and find out the best ways to live more sustainability while also saving on your bills.”
