Youth Week began as a NSW Government initiative in 1989, and has since grown to be a celebration of young people in every state and territory across the country.
National Youth Week is jointly supported by the Australian Government, State and Territory Governments and Local Governments and is an opportunity for young people to come together and share ideas, showcase their talents and voice their concerns on issues of importance in their community.
Cumberland Mayor Greg Cummings said a multicultural community like Cumberland values its local youth and acknowledging their voice was critical in securing the long-term future of the community.
“The foundation of every successful community is its youth, so it is important that we acknowledge them and invite them to be active participants in local and national affairs,” Clr Cummings said.
“Youth Week is a great opportunity to do this, so I encourage our young people to get involved in the community and enjoy the great events that we are providing for them during the week.”
Youth Week events in Cumberland include:
- Movie Night Market at the Auburn Centre for Community (ages 12-25), Friday 12 April from 5-9pm
