Cumberland Council is inviting the community to have their say on concept plans for the $20m Granville Multi-Purpose Community Centre, which has received $10m in funding under the Stronger Communities Fund.
Community engagement will kick off on 11 September 2017 and include workshops, stalls and surveys.
Administrator Viv May encouraged interested parties to register for the workshops in advance by calling 9735 1226.
Mr May visited the site last week with General Manager Malcolm Ryan and NSW MP for Granville Julia Finn to assess the proposed plans created by Council’s contracted architects, Design Worldwide Partnership. These include a library, art gallery, multi-purpose community facility, recreation areas and a variety of innovative spaces.
“The current community centre is extremely popular and at capacity the majority of the time, so it’s exciting to be able to provide what’s shaping up to be a really impressive facility for Granville to rally around,” Mr May said.
“The main goal is to build engaging, innovative community spaces that gets Granville excited and that’s reflected in these concepts.
“Included in the plans are an audio visual experimental space for music or video recording and editing, a multipurpose dance studio, a youth activity space and even a technology room.
“We know there is a general lack of local parks in the area so outdoor recreational spaces have been included such as a children’s playground, outdoor barbecue area and two multi-use sports courts.
“The library and art gallery will be state-of-the-art with a variety of mixed use spaces and modern technology for total connectivity.
“Now it’s up to the people of Granville to let us know if we have hit the mark. Importantly, the consultation will be asking for the types of services, activities and programs Granville wants running out of these spaces. This is where you can think outside of the box to direct council on what’s most needed.”
NSW MP for Granville Julia Finn encouraged “everyone to have their say so we can have the best possible local facilities”.
