Cumberland City Council wants to hear from residents about how they want Granville Town Centre and surrounds to look and feel in the coming years.

Council is looking at a long-term planning framework (a document) to ensure future changes make the area welcoming and user-friendly for residents and visitors.

“We are placing a huge emphasis on planning for the future, making the area an economic hub with a mix of commercial, retail and residential spaces supported by better public transport. We also think it's essential that we achieve all of this while preserving local heritage,” Mayor Steve Christou said.

“Following the release of the Cumberland 2030: Our Strategic Local Planning Statement where Granville has been identified as a Principal Local Centre, the proposed framework is the next step in outlining a vision for the Granville area.

"We want to know what's important to residents and the types of services, spaces, and amenities they want in the future."

The framework will involve the development of detailed planning controls for sites within the town centre and surrounding streets, including a Planning Proposal and Development Control Plan.

Existing planning controls will continue to apply if no changes are proposed.

Council is inviting submissions on the proposed planning framework now and residents have until 31 March 2021 to have their say.
