Mayor Greg Cummings encouraged youth who work or study in Cumberland and are able to attend a meeting every fortnight in the lead up to the event, to apply on the have your say website. Expressions of interest are being sought until Monday 8 October 2018.

“Youth Week began as a NSW Government initiative in 1989, and has since grown to be a celebration of young people in every state and territory across the country,” Mayor Cummings said.

“The week-long celebration held in early April each year is organised by young people, for young people, in communities across NSW and Australia.

“In Cumberland, young people make up around 20 per cent of our population and I always feel so proud to see our young residents getting involved in their local community.

“Council is committed to connecting youth with their peers and the broader community, giving them the opportunity to be involved in a variety of events and activities, and seeking their insights and input into designing what these look like.

“Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities and events.”

Members of the Youth Week 2019 Planning Team will receive a $50 gift voucher for their contribution to the creation of Cumberland Council’s program of events and activities for Youth Week 2019.
