Hogwarts is flying into Cumberland in the July school holidays with a Quidditch clinic at Merrylands Park.

The free one day clinic on Wednesday 11 July, run in conjunction with the Spartans Quidditch Club, will offer young people the chance to learn the fundamental skills of Quidditch while dressing up as their favourite Harry Potter character.

Based on the sport made famous in the Harry Potter book series, Quidditch has been adapted from flying brooms to a real life sport where players run around with a broomstick between their legs, springing, dodging and chasing each other trying to catch the Golden Snitch.

Mayor Greg Cummings said he was excited that Council was providing fun and new activities to get children outdoors and keep them active during the school holidays.

“We know that keeping kids active and entertained in the school holidays can sometimes be difficult and Council is always looking for new ways to get young people out and active in our community,” Mayor Cummings said.

“This free event will surely give kids something magical to talk about when they head back to school.”
