Meticulous paint works of the heritage-listed Linnwood House Estate have been recognised at the 2018 Master Painters Awards for Excellence, with Council’s contractor taking out the top honour in the heritage and restoration category.

Programmed Property Services was awarded the tender to carry out the restoration paint work, which involved carefully reproducing the existing painted surfaces while not damaging any of the original material.

Mayor Greg Cummings welcomed the award, saying the restoration works were indicative of Council’s commitment to preserving and promoting its heritage.

“It’s great to see that the restoration works of Linnwood House organised by Council are getting noticed,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“A fresh coat of paint can do wonders for any building and this is particularly true when the building was built more than a century ago.

“Linnwood House and the entire Estate is a veritable time machine to Cumberland’s past. A state-listed heritage property, to walk around this imposing building and the artefacts which have been painstakingly preserved by the Friends of Linnwood, is to be transported back to the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.

“Cumberland Council values its heritage, which includes the lovely streetscapes, gardens, parks, old mansions, industrial ruins and community buildings.

“These all contribute to the character and charm of Cumberland that is sought and valued by residents and visitors alike.

“As a community, it’s our responsibility to identify and respect what is important, and to protect and pass on these places to future generations.

“Our heritage not only adds value to our neighbourhoods but it is also closely linked with environmental protection, creating vibrant communities and sustaining local economies.

“All of these reasons highlight why it is important for us to all get involved in the preservation of our heritage.

“Council is in the process of engaging with the community and key stakeholders on how we can best utilise and activate Linnwood Estate and invite more people to take a walk through its history.

“If you haven’t visited Linnwood House Estate – and I know many locals who haven’t - I invite you to drop in over the summer holidays.”
