Building on the success of the inaugural Meet Your Councillor events, launched during Local Government Week 2018, Cumberland Council will host another face-to-face event in each Ward on 8 and 9 November.
Mayor Greg Cummings said that Councillors were looking forward to being able to meet directly with residents again.
“As Councillors we are elected by our community to serve their interests. To be able to meet with our residents and listen to their needs is a great opportunity for us to take action on what is important to them,” Mayor Cummings said.
“We want to go directly to where our residents are going to be, making it easy for people to have their say. This is why Councillors will be visiting local shopping and community centres in their ward during peak times.
“Being accessible, transparent and open is part of our commitment as Councillors to our community. Every day we strive to make Cumberland a great place to live, work and visit and it’s important for us to check in to find out how we can do this. Meet Your Councillor will give residents the opportunity to have their say on upcoming plans and strategies in their area.
“Many people don’t understand the large role Council plays in their lives such as council-owned roads, libraries, child care centres, bushland management and sports fields. Meet Your Councillor helps us inform residents about the range of Council services available to them including free waste pickups, weekly meal delivery for seniors, free immunisation clinics for children, environmental management and sustainability workshops, and cultural events like the upcoming Diwali festival.
“I encourage all residents to stop by in their Ward and have a chat with their Councillors.”
