Cumberland Council is inviting residents to have their say on the Draft Cumberland Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan, on public exhibition until Sunday 4pm, 3 June 2018.
The draft Plan draws upon up-to-date crime statistics, consultation with NSW Police and extensive community feedback to create a four year action plan to tackle crime and improve community safety.
Mayor Greg Cummings invited residents to comment on the draft Plan, saying every resident of Cumberland had a fundamental right to personal safety and security.
“Cumberland remains a safe place to live and work but more can be done to ensure all of our residents feel safe all of the time,” Mayor Cummings said.
“The draft Plan is the result of extensive engagement with residents, local businesses, community groups, service providers and NSW Police.
“This input helped us choose and shape those programs that will have a big impact on improving safety for families and individuals.
“This includes $500,000 to expand the number of CCTV cameras in use and undertake priority lighting upgrades in town centres across Cumberland.
“People told us they want Council to do more to help them feel safe at night and better lighting and a visible CCTV presence will help achieve this.
“Council is also investing resources to promote greater coordination between community groups, service providers and NSW Police to tackle the issue of domestic and family violence.
“Preventing crime and promoting safety isn’t only up to the Police or Council. It is everyone’s responsibility.
“I invite anyone interested in working with Council to build a safer community to have their say on the draft Plan.”
