Cumberland residents joined the nation in fighting against graffiti last week by participating in Graffiti Removal Day (29 October 2017).

The Rotary Club of Granville were one local group who hosted their own graffiti removal site. They were joined by Cumberland Councillor Ola Hamed to successfully clean Granville Medical Centre of all graffiti.

Nationally, the estimated cost of graffiti and other forms of vandalism to the Australian community is $2.7 billion per year.

Mayor Greg Cummings is now encouraging Cumberland residents to continue the fight for cleaner streets by reporting their local problem areas to Council.

“Graffiti is a problem all across Sydney and Graffitti Removal Day was a perfect opportunity for people across Cumberland to rally as a community and take ownership of their common spaces,” Mayor Cummings said.

“Congratulations to the local community members who took part in the initiative such as the Rotary Club of Granville, who were joined by my fellow Councillor Ola Hamed.

“Council wants to continue the push to free Cumberland of graffiti and will be undertaking a graffiti removal blitz in November, but we need your help.

“If you know of a place in your area with graffiti, please 8757 9000 and the site will be cleaned within 24 hours.

“Council is committed to increasing the cleanliness and appearance of our liveable area but we need your help to report the areas where it’s a problem; let’s fight graffiti together.”
