Wyatt Park will reflect needs and vision of the community: Have your say on the proposed options

Two Landscape Masterplan options for the upgrade of Wyatt Park, Lidcombe will now be presented to the community following a report adopted by Cumberland Council last night.

Both Masterplans are based on the visions and needs identified during the first phase of consultation on the project where Council met with the many community members and organisations that use the facility.

Both plans propose some exciting additions and upgrades such as:

  • New playgrounds, skate park and learn to ride bike track
  • BBQ and picnic facilities
  • Cycle/pedestrian tracks around and throughout the park
  • Transitioning some of the netball courts to multipurpose courts
  • Sculptural landform markers
  • A new amenities building for Lidcombe Oval
  • A maintenance storage facility as part of the Basketball Centre extension
  • A new multi-purpose youth/community centre
  • Additional car parking

The two options will now be presented to the community in the second phase of consultation, which will include an online survey, in-person surveys in the Auburn and Lidcombe Town Centres, information sessions and further feedback from key stakeholders within Wyatt Park.

Auburn resident Mariya Shahid, winner of a $50 Westfield voucher for her participation in the initial survey, expressed her happiness with the fact Council was ‘preparing for the future.’

“I’m so excited about the changes that will be happening at Wyatt Park because I think it’s a terrific location with plenty of potential,” said Ms Shahid.

“I walk at the park daily. It is a peaceful location with plenty of open space and I would love to see more done with it.

“I think the most important thing is that in the future there is a whole range of different sports and services to choose from because our community here is so diverse and love different things.

“I am very happy that the focus is going to be on creating a place that is well known around Cumberland as somewhere where you can do anything and everyone is welcome.

“The fact that there will be comfortable spaces for leisure and family also makes me happy because the Park is so big and can have spaces for everything the community needs.”
