Cumberland Council will be thanking nine local young people from the 2018 Cumberland Youth Week planning group for their efforts in delivering Youth Week events for the community.

Mayor Greg Cummings will present the group with certificates of appreciation for their hard work in organising wonderful community events for over 250 of their peers.

“As young people themselves the planning group worked hard to put together events that allowed their fellow young people to connect with each other, participate in their community and have fun with new friends,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“The planning group members gave up their time and worked around their own study, career and social commitments to deliver events that received overwhelming positive feedback.

“It makes me proud to see our young residents getting involved in their community and wanting to make a difference in Cumberland. Our young people are our future and I hope others are inspired by the hard work of this group to also get involved.

“Young people make up around 20 per cent of our Cumberland community and Council runs a number of year round youth activities and events that residents can get involved in.

“Our recent ambassadors program is just one example of how we are working closely with young people to ensure we are delivering the best possible programs and getting positive outcomes for our community.”
