As part of our celebrations, we have invited Oliver Slewa, a former refugee from Iraq, to share his family’s story and describe the journey he took to finally settle in Australia in 1994.
Hear Oliver recount the harrowing and inspirational story of how he and his family fled Iraq into war torn Syria and their subsequent journey towards being granted temporary asylum in Greece. From there they sought permanent visas and in 1994, they were granted refugee status in Australia. For Oliver, this marked the beginning of a new chapter during which he hoped the rebuild his life in his new home. It was nothing short of a miracle.
Come along and listen to Oliver’s story.
