Community projects with a focus on child development, health services and support for refugees are among those to share in $1.2 million under the Cumberland ClubGRANTS program.

Sixty projects have received funding as part of the 2019 program, which gives local clubs an opportunity to provide financial support to community projects.

Presenting the grants today, Mayor Greg Cummings said: “ClubGRANTS is a program that shows how the spirit of assisting local residents and groups is alive and well in the Cumberland community.

“These grants have been made possible by local clubs who are making a $1.2 million contribution that will support local services and provide crucial financial assistance.”

Grant recipients and their projects include:

  • The Shepherd Centre For Deaf Children – awarded $19,008 for Kidscape - an art and music playgroup for children with hearing loss and their families in the Cumberland area. The group has also been awarded $18,256 for Confident Kids – a social skills group therapy program for children with hearing loss.
  • Auburn Small Community Organisation Network – awarded $77,300 for its Connect to Work program.
  • Youth Off The Streets – awarded $29,139 for its iDrive Youth Off The Streets Driver Training Program. The group has also been awarded $75,970 for psychology services for vulnerable and disadvantaged youths.
  • Mercy Works – awarded $37,492 for its Mercy Connection Refugee Support program.
  • Refugee Advice and Casework Service – awarded $36,000 to provide legal support for refugees

A number of local clubs have contributed to this year’s program.  This includes the Auburn Soccer Sports Club, Auburn Tennis Club, Club Merrylands, DOOLEYS Lidcombe Catholic Club, Granville Diggers, Guildford Leagues, Merrylands RSL and Wenty Leagues.

ClubGRANTS is administered by Cumberland Council and managed by a Local Committee which has representatives that identify funding priorities and assess applications.
