The following can be attributed to Hamish McNulty, General Manager for Cumberland City Council:

The Auburn Centre for Community will be closed for the next 48 hours, after a visitor tested positive for COVID-19. The visitor attended the Centre on Saturday, 29 August between 5pm and 7pm.

Western Sydney Health have advised that the visitor is not considered to be a “close contact” for other visitors and staff at the Centre. As a result, the advice received from NSW Health is that the centre is not required to be closed for any period of time.

According to NSW Health, a close contact is “someone who has been near enough to a person with COVID-19 while they were infectious that there is a reasonable chance they will have become infected with COVID-19.”

As a precautionary measure, Council has carried out intensive professional cleaning of the Centre to ensure it is safe. The Centre will remain closed until Friday, 4 September.

All visitors who attended the Centre since Saturday have been advised that they should monitor themselves for symptoms and get tested.

We appreciate the patience and support of residents during this difficult time and we will do everything we can to ensure their safety, working in partnership with health professionals.
