Cumberland Council is pleased to announce that, following an ordinary Meeting of Council on Wednesday 27 September, Councillor Lisa Lake has been re-elected as the Mayor of Cumberland Council alongside Councillor Ola Hamed, who was elected Deputy Mayor.

Commenting on her appointment, Mayor Lisa Lake said she was honoured to be re-elected to serve the Cumberland community as Mayor.

“I feel extremely privileged to be re-elected as Mayor and I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead a Council that continues to make real improvements for the people of Cumberland.” said Mayor Lake.

Mayor Lake also added how wonderful it is to lead a Chamber that looks like the people it represents. “I’d like to thank outgoing Deputy Mayor Clr Suman Saha for the tremendous support he has given me over the last twelve months. His thoughtful input and steady hand is invaluable.”

She also welcomed Clr Ola Hamed as Council’s new Deputy Mayor.

“It’s great that Cumberland now has its first Muslim woman Deputy Mayor. We see around us in this area many women of Islamic faith in leadership positions working to improve the lives of our local people. Clr Hamed, a true Granville local, is one of them and I look forward to us working closely together.”

“I am proud to lead one of the most culturally diverse areas in this country and I will strive to ensure that our growing community continues to flourish.”

Councillors congratulated the re-elected Mayor and commented on her strong sense of duty and determination to listen to the needs of the community, keeping an open mind when it came to decisions affecting Cumberland.

Mayor Lake assured the community that Council will continue its strong focus on actively encouraging community participation in decision making through open meetings, public forums, advisory committees and workshops.
