Upgraded playgrounds, new roads, footpaths and ongoing sports and recreation programs are just some of the exciting activities planned for Cumberland City over the next year.

After 28 days of public consultation, we adopted the Operational Plan 2021-22 in June 2021 which sets out the principle activities for the year including the budget, capital works, rates and fees and charges.

Mayor Steve Christou said the plan will enable us to thrive as an economic and community hub.

“This was an important step in cementing the important work we plan to continue across Cumberland City,” Mayor Christou said.

“We are committed to delivering quality services in a cost-effective manner while allocating funding for major capital works which makes Cumberland a great place to live”.

The top ten major capital works for 2021-2022 outlined in the plan include:

  • Merrylands Civic Square: Partly funded (50%) by the NSW Government, this $11,000,000 project will provide a public domain in the heart of Merrylands.
  • Merrylands CBD Drainage/Stormwater: This $7,569,000 project will see an increased capacity for stormwater and maximise the future revitalisation of the Merrylands CBD.
  • Civic Park masterplan upgrade staged implementation: A $7,150,000 upgrade in Pendle Hill which includes a playground upgrade and wetland restoration.
  • Greening Our City: 1000 trees to be planted across Cumberland City. $434,194 (state government funded)
  • Freame Park basketball court upgrade: The popular court in Mays Hill will undergo a $427,000 upgrade, including resurfacing, fencing and landscape works.
