Viv May, Administrator of Cumberland Council, today announced the appointment of Malcolm Ryan as General Manager of Cumberland Council until March 2018.

“I am delighted to announce this appointment as Mr Ryan has a wealth of experience in local government, spanning 35 years. Moreover, his commitment to business excellence and transparency in government will serve Cumberland Council well,” Mr May said.

Mr Ryan began his career as a Town Planner for Fairfield City Council in the early 80’s. He was born and raised in Western Sydney.  Most recently he served as the Deputy General Manager for Warringah Council and has also served at Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains Councils. Mr Ryan has qualifications in town planning, mathematics and computer studies.

“Mr Ryan’s detailed knowledge of the Local Government Act and extensive experience representing Council at the Land and Environment Court will be invaluable to Cumberland Council. His work with innovative `e-planning’ and real-time financial and management reporting, which he pioneered while at Warringah Council, won the 2015  Bluett Award for Excellence in Local Government,” Mr May said.

“My focus has always been on providing high quality, cost effective services for the community. I am looking forward to the opportunities presented with the new Cumberland Council to draw together the best of all the current services, and work towards improving and streamlining their provision across the entire LGA. I intend to work closely with the Administrator and the staff to create a new feeling of trust and openness with the community,” Mr Malcolm Ryan said.

Mr Ryan will start duties with the Council on Thursday 2 June, 2016.
