Hundreds of hampers brimming with food and essential items will support local families in need, thanks for the generous support of farmers and businesses.

Thankful4Farmers gathered donations to help those local residents in need and had them delivered to us this week.

We will use council staff to box and deliver the hampers with the help of NSW Police and ADF on Thursday (9.9.21).

Mayor Steve Christou said many donors had approached Council since the first hamper drive last month.

“We’ve been so pleased by the support from donors – farmers, local business people, and local residents – it’s been amazing to see this community spirit alive and well,” Mayor Christou said.

“Two weeks ago we were able to distribute 300 hampers with the help of NSW Police and Australian Defence Force personnel, with amazing donations from local businesses and farmers, including Mackas Beef from the mid north coast.”

“It’s community spirit at its best,” says Thankful CEO, Kim McDonnell. “In the face of adversity, Australian farmers have chipped in to help the city after seeing many people struggling with the recent lockdowns.”

“Farmers know it was the city that helped them during the tough times of drought, bushfires and floods - and wanted to help get food onto their plates everyday, three times a day during this tough lockdown period.”

“We are proud to play our part at Thankful4Farmers in unifying and organising farmers and producers across New South Wales to deliver needed produce to the tables of those struggling in the city at this time."

“Thank you to everyone who jumped at the opportunity to show their support by donating fruit, vegetables, bread, oats and coffee. It really is touching and highlights their generosity, the important work they do and their gratitude to the city communities - who have helped them in the past,” said McDonnell

“During these tough times, those that have, need to help those that don’t - because that is what humanity is all about,” says Wentworth Hill from the Gourmet Potato.

Farmers, producers and companies chipping in and giving back to the city and a part of the Thankful4Farmers initiative include: The Gourmet Potato, Red Tractor, Vittoria, Bakers Delight and Harris Farm Markets.

Council also received donations from Bite Size Group and Argyle Foods.

The recipients were nominated by NSW Police, community organisations and residents who contacted council directly.

If you’re in need, or can make a donation, fill in the form online and we’ll try to help.
