The library at the Granville Centre is temporarily closed and a driver is under investigation after crashing into the front of the building overnight.

The Centre will remain closed while emergency repairs are being carried out on the building.

"The damage to the library facade of the building is quite severe and we're grateful that no one has been killed in this accident," said Mayor of Cumberland City Council Steve Christou.

"Cumberland City Council is working with NSW Police to understand how the motorist came to leave the road and collide with the building.

"The Centre only opened in September and we know this will be very disappointing for local residents who are using facilities at this site, including the library.

“Besides the library, the rest of the Centre remains open including the gallery and access to the pool.

"We will continue to keep the community informed and we appreciate their patience as we work to have the Centre repaired."
