Cumberland residents are invited to have their say on the future of Council’s community facilities via an online survey. All participants will go in the draw to win one of five $50 Stockland vouchers.

The survey results will help inform Council’s new Community Facilities Strategy, which will establish a four year blueprint for how new facilities are planned, existing facilities are managed and ensure the emerging needs of the community are met.

Mayor Greg Cummings invites all residents to have their say, noting the important role Council’s facilities play in building community and fostering a sense of local identity and connection.

“It’s important that we get the new Community Facilities Strategy right,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“Council manages an extensive network of community facilities, including four staffed community centres, 25 non-staffed community facilities and more than 25 leased facilities such as scout and guide halls, shared office and meeting spaces.

“Our facilities are more than bricks and mortar. They are essential public spaces where key milestones are celebrated, essential services are offered and where individuals come together and leave as members of the same community.

Council is currently taking a holistic look at all our facilities, including their location and design; services and usage; management and programming.

“With Cumberland expected to grow by around 30 per cent over the next two decades, it’s important that our Community Facilities Strategy provides for this growth.

“We really want the community’s input as to what they think the most critical needs are and how we can fulfil those needs.

“We also want residents to tell us what areas or venues need improvement, so we can address any shortfalls or weaknesses in our facilities.

“The more people that complete this survey, the better we will understand how residents are using our facilities and their expectations going forward. This in turn will help us develop a strategy that aligns with the needs of the community, both today and tomorrow.”
