About Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and holds significance in the Islamic faith. It is a sacred and holy month observed by Muslims around the world as a period of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food, drink, smoking and sinful behaviours. The fast is not just a physical discipline but also a spiritual and mental purification. It serves as a way to develop self-discipline, empathy for those in need and a deeper connection to God.

The pre-dawn meal, known as Suhoor, is consumed before the fast begins. The fast is broken at sunset with a meal called Iftar. Iftar is often initiated with the eating of dates and followed by a diverse array of foods. Families and communities come together to share these meals, fostering a sense of unity and solidarity.
