$1 million in grant funding made available to Cumberland Council under the State Government’s Stronger Communities fund was today awarded to community organisations across Cumberland. A total of 32 community organisations received funding up to $50,000 for a range of projects that aim to improve community safety, health and wellbeing, social inclusion and the capacity of local organisations to deliver projects.

At the presentation ceremony today General Manager Malcolm Ryan announced Council’s own new Community Grants scheme kicking off in July 2017.

“32 local organisations are now better positioned to implement initiatives, services, programs and a range of other projects that will provide increased support to the people of Cumberland and their communities,” said Mr Ryan.

“Following on from today, Council’s own community grants program will launch with applications opening in July 2017. It’s very exciting because for the first time ever, Council will have $660,000 in funding to distribute.

“Community organisations are an indispensable part of what Council does. They work as a proxy arm for local government, developing creative methods to deliver important services from within the community.

“The double round of funding in 2017 will give our excellent local organisations increased capacity to work alongside Council to bring about local change as quickly as possible.

“Organisations can apply for funding for a range of ambitions such as community events, arts and cultural development, community infrastructure or equipment, an ambassador fund and capacity building.

“Congratulations to all the community organisations who received funding today and good luck with your projects. Remember to keep an eye on the Cumberland website for information on how to apply for further funding in July 2017.”
