The transformation of the Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre into a state-of-the art facility is entering its final stage, with construction due to be completed in February 2017.

The existing facilities have been totally overhauled with the exception of the heritage significant buildings and the grandstand which have remained in recognition of the centre’s historical local significance.

Construction of all pools have been completed including:

– 50m outdoor pool
– 30m x 25m outdoor water polo pool
– Outdoor children’s interactive water play shaded pool
– Air-conditioned indoor 25m pool
– Family leisure pool and program pool

All pools are to be heated and will provide access for people with disability. New modern change rooms and the café are also approaching completion.

All pools have already been filled once to make sure they are water tight and have now been emptied so tiling can take place. All that remains is completion of the façade of the centre, the provision of water equipment and final landscaping.

Administrator Viv May expressed his excitement as the project nears completion.

“The Aquatic Centre is a contemporary year-round aquatic hub for Cumberland that provides a variety of water spaces for leisure, fitness and wellness.

“The new pool will be accessible to Cumberland’s diverse community and provides a brand new, highly valued recreation location that is safe and provides a quality aquatic experience for Cumberland residents”

“I want to congratulate all the groups and individuals who have been involved, from the beginning of the process until now, in making this valuable new community asset a reality” said Mr May.
