Berala Village will be receiving a complete face lift this year with $1.9m in upgrades scheduled to begin on 3 July 2017, lasting approximately eight months. The revitalisation will ensure Berala continues to be a thriving hub into the future while retaining its unique village feel. The upgrades include:

• New road surface, blisters and traffic islands
• Reconstruction of kerb and gutter sections, road pavement, footpaths and kerb ramps
• New street furniture including bins, seats and drinking fountains
• Stormwater sections replacement under proposed footpath widening and construction of new pipe sections, gully pits and manholes
• Landscaping work including tree pits, tree and shrub supply, planting and subsoil drainage
• New traffic and parking signage

“Berala is the perfect example of one of the unique aspects of Cumberland; it is a popular hub with a village atmosphere frequented by locals,” said Cumberland Council General Manager Malcolm Ryan.

“The village is well due for a face lift and this revitalisation project will increase the amenity of the area while retaining the unique character of Berala, just as the local community have requested.

“New roads and footpaths will make the Town Centre more accessible and landscaping works and the planting of new trees will make it more visually appealing.

“Street furniture will provide active spaces for people and stormwater upgrades will increase safety and cleanliness.

“There will be some noise and disturbance around your business or your favourite café from time to time during the upgrade but Council has taken measures to minimise any disruption. Vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the construction.”

Residents within the vicinity of Berala Town Centre have been issued a letter detailing the works and they will be kept up to date throughout the construction.
